Completed in 2006, Republic Polytechnic’s 20-hectare Woodlands campus has facilities to allow it to cater for up to about 13,000 students, as well as residents of the community. Designed jointly by award-winning Japanese architect, Fumihiko Maki and DP Architects, The Republic’s Woodlands home has many special features.
The Republic Polytechnic is a campus with a central nucleus of main educational programmes serviced by 5 satellites of ancillary programmes. The central nucleus contains 11 identical learning Pods (8-9-storeys high) and 1 staff admin hub. The 11 learning Pods house study clusters and dry labs. They are then unified by 2 elliptical decks of common facilities, namely the Lawn and the Agora.
The Agora contains the Library, informal Reading Spaces, Mass Assessment Halls, Specialized Labs, Lecture Rooms, Auditoriums and Cafeterias. The Library is located towards the southern tip for better public access and to address the main entry into the Agora level. The Agora in the Republic Polytechnic is reminiscent of the Agora in ancient Greece which was a place of public assembly, a forum, marketplace or public square for exchange of information and goods. Hence, it is a venue of choice for our conference where participants could exchange ideas and take back valuable gleanings from the conference.
